Claude Desktop
Third-party inference in Anthropic's desktop app
Claude Desktop can send Messages API traffic to a custom gateway. Enable Developer Mode, then set the gateway to orientx. Anthropic documents this under Connect to an LLM gateway (Desktop app section).
| Gateway URL | https://api.orientx.ai |
| Auth | your orientx API key, scheme bearer |
| Where | Developer → third-party inference |

Enable Developer Mode
In Claude Desktop: Help → Troubleshooting → Enable Developer Mode. Quit the app fully and reopen it so the Developer menu appears.
Set the gateway
Open the third-party inference panel and fill in:
- Gateway base URL —
https://api.orientx.ai(no/v1suffix). - Gateway API key — the raw key, without a
Bearerprefix. - Gateway auth scheme —
bearer. - Model list — ids from
GET /v1/modelsthat accept/v1/messages. The app will not invent names.
Save, quit Claude Desktop completely, then launch it again and pick one of those models.
Field labels differ slightly across Claude Desktop versions. Keep the meaning: host root, bearer key, Messages-capable model ids.
